August into September and . . .

Where has the summer gone?  The 29th Olympiad is almost over (allowing me to finish one sweater, start another almost to completion while watching) and school is about to begin.  This means vacation time for me.  This year brings a special treat--a trip to the Belfast Mini-Mills on Prince Edward Island, Canada.

If you've never been to PEI, you might just consider a trip to this lovely, friendly maritime province.  Anne of Green Gables aside, the people are a delight; the scenery magnificent, and the Mini-Mills a must for any fiber lover.

This family oriented business manufactures small mills from a design the father created several years ago.  These outfits can actually fit in your garage and do a superb job of spinning all types of fibers.  The biggest treat for those not interested in small mill business is their retail show room.  The family takes all kinds of exotic fibers and tests them on their mills.  The results can be found in their little shop.  Prices are just right.  Designers pop in from time to time and grab up all the treats.  One takes what's available at the moment.  I've not been disappointed.

Since the Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival is coming up the end of October and I've got a booth this year, I hope to stock up on the luscious exotics.  I'm still pondering how to get my purchases home since I'm traveling by train.  But with such wonderful bargains, I'm sure I'll figure out a sure fire method.

If you're inclined to visit the Fiber Festival, stop by and visit.  I'll also have Gita Maria buttons.  They're a pricey treasure sure to catch your eye.  Each button is hand painted porcelain on silver.  Yummmm!  Just one will create a fashion stir on any garment.

Keep those needles, hooks, and threads moving.

A TEASING PEEK INTO OUR OFFERINGS & PROGRAMS

Brazen Sheep is a site for fiber lovers.

The designs you see as you move from one page to another are either one-of-a-kind or templates for the original patterns listed separately.  These completed pieces may or may not be up for adoption.  If they are, the items will be noted with size, fiber content, and price.

There are three distinct sections to the Brazen Sheep website.  The first is for the eye and the itch to get creating.  Here you will see what has tumbled from the mind and fingers of fiber artist Micki Smith.  When she’s in her studio (the better part of any calendar segment), she’s available via e-mail to answer knitting questions, spur on your own creative juices, or act as a resource.

Classes, events, thoughts, meanderings, and other mystic moments can be found in appropriate segments of the navigation bars.

Sheep of the Fold, reflects the spiritual side of any art, but most specifically fiber arts.  Amy Beveridge and Micki Smith, friends since the beginning of time, have a combined experience of over 50 years leading workshops based on the Creator and the created.  These events can be shaped to meet the needs of any group. If you’re yearning to find the connection between your needles, pens, hooks, brushes and the internal Spirit, check out Sheep of the Fold.
